A single layer will create a sheer finish with the addition of subsequent layers of opacity. We suggest 2-3 layers for full opacity and overall coverage. Let it dry between coverings. Stroke & Coat® paints will glow to a glossy finish without a clear coating. However, if desired, a clear coating can be added (such as NT-CLR Clear One Dipping Glaze or S-2101 Crystal Clear Brushing). For application on wet or hard leather clays and burnt to the cone 04, colors will retain their vibrancy with significant time savings. We recommend leaving an uncoated area, such as the back or bottom of the piece uncoated, to allow gas to escape from the mud during the single burn process.
Cone 06: A thick, viscous, highly pigmented coat of paint that can be used for brushstrokes or opaque coverage. One layer will create a sheer finish with the addition of subsequent layers of opacity. We suggest two to three layers for complete opacity and overall coverage. It will burn to a glossy finish without a clear coating.
Cone 6: semi-transparent coating. The color fades a little.
The paint set is formulated to ripen in Cone 5/6. Most Stroke & Coat® paints will maintain their color at higher temperatures, especially red, orange, yellow, green, and blue. Their performance is noted in Cone 6 on each individual product label with no changes. We recommend testing on your clay and in your oven before use.
